These two projects, valued at $46 million, were to construct Salt Lake City’s first modern streetcar line. The two-mile system, known as the S-Line, connects UTA’s light rail system with the Sugar House business district. The initial project was built in an abandoned railroad corridor, while the second project double-tracked portions of the original line.
The system crosses 12 roadways and includes eight stations, train and traffic signals, an overhead catenary system, and traction power substation infrastructure. The scope included the construction of a greenway along the alignment, which forms a linear park with plazas, bike and hiking trails, landscaping, and public art to enhance the pedestrian-friendly feel of the corridor. The project team received numerous letters of appreciation from local businesses and stakeholders.
