Stacy Witbeck was a joint venture member on this $1.2 billion design-build project to construct a 15-mile, three-corridor extension of Houston’s light rail system. The project included designing and constructing two new maintenance facilities, expanding an existing facility, 25 new stations, 37 platforms, nine bridges, roadwork, utility relocations, communications, signals, OCS, and 74,000 sf of walls.
Features included ballasted, direct fixation, embedded track, significant replacement, relocation, adjustments, existing and private utility protection, and storm drainage. The work also included rebuilding local streets and roadways adjacent to the trackway and constructing 21 at-grade crossings.
The alignment was primarily in-street running and passed through residential, commercial, industrial, and downtown areas. Portions of the project were adjacent to busy event centers, universities, churches, and business centers.
