Stacy Witbeck was integrated with the CMAR team on this complex storage replacement project. Work included structures for a flow control station at the new headworks facility for Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, providing safe drinking water for residents of Los Angeles. The constructed vaults house the equipment necessary to regulate the flow of water to the two concrete reservoirs
A mass excavation of approximately 45,000 cubic yards of earth about 35' deep from the existing grade was performed to open the area for the Flow Control Station's four structures. To facilitate the excavation, a 9,000 square foot tieback shoring wall was constructed to support the road adjacent to the project. Approximately 2,000 cubic yards of structural concrete was placed to construct the four vaults that make up the Flow Control Station. The vaults will house the valves and other equipment necessary to regulate the flow of drinking water to the two concrete reservoirs in the Headworks facility.
Constant coordination with other contractors on the project was paramount to ensure all phases of this complex system were appropriately completed in conjunction with one another.
