About the Project

This CM/GC project included three different but interconnected scopes. Double tracking the line and rebuilding the station at the Portland International Airport provides more reliable service system wide by removing a bottleneck in the system. Double tracking and adding an additional station at the Gateway Transit Center, along with a bridge over I-84, provides another connection point to a major hub along the line. And extending service from the Beaverton Transit Center to the Fairplex station with track, switch, and signal improvements provides more people with direct access to the Red Line.

Thanks to the hard work of everybody involved, including MRS providing crucial systems, communications, and signaling expertise, the project was a resounding success. The team completed eight successful shutdowns, built 60,000 sq. ft. of retaining wall, two bridges, two new station platforms, an operator break building, 1.5 miles of new bike paths, and three new signal house cutovers. Over 320,000 worker hour were performed, all with zero recordables or lost time incidents.

Work was performed adjacent to the active light rail system, while maintaining scheduled service on the existing Red Line. We're grateful for the opportunity to continue serving the people of Portland through TriMet's public transit improvement initiatives, and proud to have been a part of A Better Red.
